man and environment.

from what i viewed from the "inconvenient truth" during gp lesson.
i realised alot of things.


apparently, it seems that man is the cause of all these crap that is happening to earth right now. in the past such phenomena had never been seen before. however ever since the 1700s, the industrial revolution, things began to change.

for the past 650000 years, the world has always been following a very traditional pattern of its rise and fall in temperatures. ice ages come and go very punctually, with the natural cycle going around the earth. however, one can no longer see that since the late 1990s. i still remember when i was small i was still able to predict long cooling, whistling winds smashing against my windows every december. however, as i grow older, i no longer see the same thing happening. i miss the prediction of huge whistling of winds smashing against my windows. the world has changed. it became no longer predictable.

old habits + old technology gives predictable consequences.
old habits + NEW technology gives dramatically unpredictable consequences.

scientists and environmentalists predicted everything. and everything came true.

take for example, what does amt of carbon dioxide have to do with temp of the earth? it's common fact that CO2 is able to trap heat rays in the form of infra-red radiation and then reflected back to earth for more heat. more CO2 means more heat trapped. and it has been noted, and experimented, that for the past century, CO2 amts in atmosphere has shot up, to unpredictable heights. OFF THE CHART. that's the severity of the increasing amt of CO2 in the atmosphere. for the past 650000 years until 1800s, the amt of CO2 is never, NEVER, more than 300 parts per million (ppm) and for the past 2 centries or so, the amt of CO2 shot up to the current record of more than 600 ppm. in less than 50 years, it will shoot to more than 1000 ppm. and it will grow, at an even faster rate. and then, temp. start to rise.

scientists plotted graphs of CO2 in atmosphere against time, and temp. against time (with time frame of 650000 years also) on the same graph. their hypothesis proven true. and the amt of CO2 is what man should be concerned about. it is due to this massive, sudden ascent of the amt of CO2 in the air that causes the earth to be unable to handle so sudden a change in time; and man suffer as a result.

ok if CO2 does not change anything else but just more CO2 in the air, ok it might still be arguably acceptable and still can be done abt it. however, the truth is that it doesn't. more effects come after the increase in CO2. the chain effect from the beginning is what makes the increase in CO2 in the atmosphere shocking, scary, threatening.

increase in CO2? --> increase in temp of the world --> more precipitation due to melting of ice caps at the poles --> disrupts precipitation patterns --> uneven rainfall of every country --> dangerous phenomena of "land becoming sea" in some geographically vulnerable countries --> what is thought to be impossible now happens.

yeah. landscape is changing. ice now no longer exists. especially when we continue this level of activity.

i shall not say more. but the very thought of it just makes me worry. about the world.
Al Gore said, "what we are taking for granted will leave nothing for our next generation." true. this global issue now no longer concerns nothing more than just science and environment, but moral issues. are we ethically wrong? by not treasuring the items we have now, taking for granted, not knowing we are going to let our next generation suffer?

feel the consequences, after you watch the film. just imagine. temperature going as high as 50°C in every country 20 years later. just imagine that.
and also, feel how one is able to tackle this global problem of the increasing CO2 in the atmosphere such that it can fall back to as low as 300 ppm like in the past, if possible. (i was thinking of spraying conc NaOH through the stratosphere, letting it drop as alkaline rain, so as to absorb all the CO2 possible in the stratosphere, and atmosphere as the NaOH falls back onto the earth passing through atmosphere)

sad thing happening to the world we are living in.

looks like we can get ready to live on mars as well.
just carry out heavy pollution in mars like what we did on earth, for like 50 years
and we can live there already.

"inconvenient truth". it really gets viewers "inconvenient".
