gunong ayam

ya... and i was sweating like hell on my way to school, having to adjust my bag every now and then...
met up with ODAC in the school canteen. can see that theirs look much lighter than mine, even with all the snacks and clothings in their bags... i have a feeling that alot of the stuff i brought will not be of much use in the trip...
set off when liang hai reahced with his 70+ liyre bag.. omg is like so big la, must weight about 20 kg? and we are like a bit screwed up at the start of journey.. some of us lag behind cos forget some items in the canteen... but so sad ms lee is not in any position to tulan us anymore, haha.
walked all the way from school to johor checkpoint, or rather the train station. poor dwayne was kena dragged to dinner with liang hai, ms lee and mr sim for dinner, while the rest HAPPILY went to mac at city sq. for dinner. haha. pangseh!

haha. this is my quarter pounder meal... RM9.14 is like rather ex for malaysia but qhite cheap for singapore le... but the quarter pounder is like so small, like cheeseburger liddat....
ok back at around 7. quite late huh, cos train arriving at ard 8 liddat... and ppl still dilly dally having dinner. lucky trains in malaysia are never punctual.. haha.

ya the johor bahru train station... is like the 1st time i coming here la... oso 1st time taking train... summore 1st class cabin la. omg.

wow. this is what a 1st class cabin looks like inside. bed instead of couches, so nice la.
nice time inside the train... played bridge pope and big 2 until some 2+. as usual i keep looking out of the windscreen for scenery as i did while taking coaches. haha. but this one is not very interesting as it is all black outside. sianx.
arrived quite late at dabong, delayed by 1 hour. so it sounds like everything pushed back by 1 hour. haha. had breakfast at the coffeeshop beside dabong train stn. yucks. RM2.00 nasi lemak is dirt cheap. ahha.
bob is our guide, bobby is our assistant guide.
"bob the builder,
can we fix it?
bob the builder,
yes we can!"
had caving after that, take it as a warm up for the mountain climbing. lol.

this is taken from inside the entrance of the cave..

we have to crawl through this very small opening inside the cave... i got difficulty squeezing through la..
the next cave:

ya. this cave have nice natural carvings on the rocks. the limestone structures or whatever i call that are rather nice.
ok shall not elaborate more on caving... went into 3 caves which we admired its nature and structure.. how i wish i can stay in there la, air so fresh, and so cool...
washed up at some stream at the foot of some cliff? ya. motorbikes also come here for a nice bath... the water seems polluted le...
okok. had lunch at some "resort" at some coffeeshop. though their nasi goreng is quite nice. ^^
took the van down to the foot of the mountain. rdy to set off for base camp. wa and we were pespiring like mad on the way la, due to the high humidity in the dense undergrowth... i felt like just came out of a waterfall la..
dint take much pics cos most of the time i had to keep up with the pace of the group. sianx. i wan take pics!

the kind of terrain we would be trekking through most of the time... omg. we kept slipping and falling onto the mud... so sad yet so fun.

finally after 1r1r2 hours of struggling we reached the base camp. yeah.

quite nice view from the waterfalls off the base camp @ 500m.
sad the rest of them went for a "shower" at the waterfall whilst i was freezing inside the tent.. kena hypothermia sia..
anw, it was like raining for the whole night. cant do anything uch except playing daidi inside the tent. haha.
... morning is like rather cold... we have to wear windbreakers to keep ourselves warm... sad we cant even see the sunrise due to the pathetic weather...
packed our stuff for the summit later in the morning. late by 1r2 hour. sianx.
getting colder and colder as we ascended up the mountains... even the tree barks feel cold. ants no longer thrive higher in the mountains except for some really enduring species. haha.
we were bestowed with a shower on the 1300m mark or somewhere there. i.e. the last water point 1r2 hour trek away from summit. brr.rr.. sooo coolldd... i was even carrying my tent and a water bottle that has dropped on m hands, now have to depend on my balancing skill to trek up the steep slopes of the mountain...
wa. the summit is brrr... everyone is shivering. but then still had to take a group photo at the summit. haha. we reached in 7 ours which is rather fast?
lol. mr sim still can act cute at the chills... pei fu. but he is soooo cute!!!! haha.
temp at the summit @ 1500m: 16°C. brrr. yes is like aircon temp, but imagine this "aircon" like sometimes spoil, went down to even lower temperatures... plus the rain that went through the night, and that my feet was bare exposed to the coldness of the atmosphere..
my leg was freezing throughout the night. omg for a moment i thought my blood will freeze inside the legs den think of being chopped off or whatever shit la. so scared... nothing i do helped raise the temperature of my "freezing" legs.. around 13°C sia... brrrr...
endured the cold until nxt morning. felt better for a while cos i heated up my legs using the stove. haha. and everyone was doing that.
thinking of the raising temperature with every descending step down the mountain i forgot about the cold le... but we were damn slow in descending the mountain. alot of us kept slipping and falling due to the "slipperiness" of the ground after the rain. haha. but we don't seem discouraged. LIVE RADIO reception still collected. from the back of the group. all the songs went loud into the forest. even i who was far at the front can hear songs coming from the group some 300m behind....
ok la. its getting kinda tiring. had trail lunch at the waterfall on the rocks. alot of us slipped there cos of the stupid algae growing on the rocks. koped alot of food stuff from people around me... ahha. free food!
ok the trail back is rather irritating. kena slapped, caned, poked pricked pierced rammed by the flora cramming the narrow trail. i almost got pierced in the eye.. lucky i stopped in time to reduce the impact of the thorn onto my eye... if not i would be blind by now...
finally after 6 hours of descending (which is unexpectedly slow?) we reached back the base camp. rested there for quite a while before going back to the foot of the mountain.
omg descending is damn slow la. we kept falling in the mud, and we can still joke about it...
"runway clear!" and ms lee slid down the muddy slope which most of us fell onto. haha. so funny la she...
washed up at the foot of the mountain. some went to the waterfall for a refreshing cooldown but the rest prefer to use the taps in the toilets instead.. i use none. haha.
before setting back to the same "resort" for dinner again. haha. i had "USA" and 2 iced milo and 1 iced tea for dinner. haha.
some photo taking session back at the train stn. was wanting to make some "ghostly" pics like head without the legs, hand without feet, etc etc.
ok as usual. train delayed. but this is the moment everyone was waiting for. wulala...
felt feverish so went to sleep after a few rounds of bridge and daidi. heard some heated negotiation going on at ard 3am 4am when i was snoring in my bunk. wa.
woke up at ard 7.15am. sian missed the sunrise! omg.
tired of granola bars after 3 days of it, but still had to take it for this breakfast. haix.

erhem. guess this is the only few ppl who woke up at ard the same time as me...
ppl start waking up at ard 7+ 8+. yeah. wreck havoc time. haha.
daidi! bridge!
erm.. liang hai saw it. he looked rather surprised/shocked at the sight of that. haha.

wa seh emo-ing in the train sia...

haha. mr sim playing daidi. not bad la he, his daidi quite zai sia...
and i have the cheek to ask ms lee for a game of daidi. haha. asking for trouble sia.
ok. reached woodlands checkpoint at around 12. 12-13 hours inside the train. that's omg.
had lunch at woodlands ctr before going back to school to clean tents. poor dwayne lost his hp on the bus... wahha... is good game for him sia...
the bastard above me again dun give face, while we were drying our tents it rained on us again. sian.
search party for amanda lim & her bf. project alpha success. lol. but i suffered major bruises from her... sob sob.
waiting for the rain to stop... and at 4.30, home sweet home. yeah.
some things i found out
1. i am more like bringing items for chalet than for camp/trekking... like lightsticks, speakers, lamps, etc
2. i koped alot of food from many ppl during trail lunches...
3. i dint shower or powder for 5D4N. i really stink..
4. bob is cute. haha.
5. the scenery from the summit is not as nice as that from the base camp...
6. i dint get to enjoy waterfalls but all the others get to... due to my fear for cold...
7. i crapped alot during the trip. ok not alot to others, but alot to myself.
8. my dinners are rather filling... cos of the rice wad.
9. "casino ayam" exists.
ok. some things i learnt
1. noob steps are the safest paths for trekking.
2. bring more food. dun bring so much clothes for trekking.
3. bring enough underwear.
4. walk on water instead of the mud beside the water.
5. the chain can stretch to as long as 1km from 1st person to last person.
6. LIVE RADIOS are soothing though irritating.
7. bring more rice and veg.
8. granola bars are not nice at all.
9. cuts are nothing at gunong ayam.
10. the rubber shoes worn by liang hai are good for climbing up. waterproof and light.
11. powders only adds to weight. it's kind of useless.
12. actually there isnt much to bring for trekking anyway. *learn from jensen*
13. challenge myself not to make any mistakes when i am tired.
some things i brought back from this trip
1. big, fat, hard shit
2. as usual, bruises and cuts on legs and shoulders
3. more granola bars, sneakers and milo pkts
4. a 0% battery phone
5. stinking lamps and batteries
6. trekking experience (of course!)
7. muscle aches esp on my thighs
8. 5 days of dirt from the train, the caves, the mountains, ... on my body
9. a close bond of friendship?
10. bob's contact.
wulala. i am feeling sick now.... what a trekking experience.
now i feel like preparing my stuffs AGAIN for another gunong ayam trip, this time bringing the RIGHT items...
